The celebrated book is a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poems written by Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor, which is the pen-name of English clergyman Richard Harris Barham. Ingoldsby’s collection of sagas and legends drew inspiration from folklore and legal jargon, chronicles of monks, local superstitions and myths, with brief snatches of words from other languages including German and Welsh.
