Surendranath Dasgupta (1885 - 1952) was a very influential Indian scholar of the early 20th century, and is credited with summarizing Indian religious philosophy and mysticism. He is noted for his authoritative "A History of Indian Philosophy" (1922–55); "Yoga as Philosophy and Religion" (1924); "Hindu Mysticism" (1927); and "Indian Idealism" (1933). His philosophical system combined elements of Vedic literature, Indian Jainism (particularly mysticism), the British and American new realism schools, and the theory of emergent evolution. His works are considered the cornerstone in the study of Indian Mysticism and religious philosophy.
