THE CHALDAEAN ORACLES OF ZOROASTER

Book Details + Condition: Occult Research Press (New York, NY), 1950. (ND). First Edition Thus. Softcover booklet, small octavo. 54 pages. Stapled in blue printed covers. By W. Wynn Westcott, writing as Sapere Aude. 'The Chaldean Oracles' are hermetic poetic aphorisms commonly attributed to 'Zoroaster,' but assigned by recent scholarship to Julianus the Theurgist, who lived during the third century CE. The book was considered important within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and Crowley made use of it when creating his Liber XXV (Ritual of the Star Ruby). It was published in 1896 as the sixth volume of the "Collectanea Hermetica" series, edited by Westcott (1848–1925), who revised it under his magical name / motto "Sapere Aude." Westcott was one of the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Supreme Magus of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA), and Master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge (the well-known London Masonic Lodge devoted to Masonic research). Firm binding; light wear to covers, with some discoloration present; 13 pp with ink underlining and/or margin notations.
